Corner Tree Café – Aberdeen

PLEASE NOTE – The content of this post is purely the views of student blogger Neha only. RGU does not endorse or recommend any particular restaurants for cafes.

As my course came to an end, all the students were heading back to their homes. I had some close friends in various disciplines other than my respective course. This is the beauty of getting into university that you meet lots of new people, come across different cultures as RGU has always had a global environment(more…)

Life As a Journalism Student

As as Journalism student I am always asked “So you want write for newspapers, right?” Well, yeah…it’s one of many possible occupations I could be interested in, but there is actually more to it than that. The world is open to you, to your creativity and your ideas.

Many journalism students may fancy writing,  I’m more into video production and writing longer feature stories. I need to express myself and put little piece of myself into my work.

I feel that my course has helped me to realise what I want to do. Journalism has showed me the direction I want my life to move in. Every time I’m asked whether I enjoy my course, I always say yes and I really mean it. If that shy girl with a lack of confidence didn’t choose to study journalism one year ago, she wouldn’t be where she is now. She wouldn’t be required to step out of her comfort zone and talk to complete strangers. She wouldn’t have made amazing friends with the same interests and goals.

What I like about my course and probably the British education system as a whole is its more practical approach. I feel like we are expected to use our own initiative in our studies, work on different home projects and study at home as we only have lectures three times a week, which is great!  My home country, Czech Republic, is completely different. Students go to uni in the morning and come back in the evening almost every day. They are given exams throughout the year and have big oral examinations from all subjects they study at the end of each semester. Another reason why I’m happy to be studying Journalism at RGU!

It was an amazing year and it went in the blink of an eye. Now I am back at university studying Management with Marketing, and have already finished my first semester. (more…)
