An RGU’s student review of two Aberdeen cafés

Fine Art student Xander takes us with them on a tour of two popular Aberdeen cafés to review them. Have a look at what they thought of Mount and Foodstory in this blog.

Mount

Xander’s first stop is Mount, self-titled the “home of comfort and coffee”:

Mount is a café near Marischal Square with a minimalist greenhouse kind of feel. I enjoyed a chai latte and a millionaire’s shortbread while I wrote up my to-do list in my notebook.

The chai latte was especially nice and warming to have on such a cold day. They also offer other sweet treats like flapjacks, muffins, and brownies.

When I was done, I ordered a latte to take away and had a walk around the Marischal college building. The latte was perfect, not too bitter but not too sweet so I could still taste the coffee.

This would be the perfect place to go if you’re shopping or sightseeing around the east end of Union Street as it’s right next to the Bon Accord centre, Provost Skene’s house, and Marischal college.

Foodstory

Their next stop is Foodstory, a coffee shop created to make “people feel like they belong”:

Foodstory is a restaurant/cafe on Thistle Street in Aberdeen, not far from Union Street.

As it had been snowing, I opted for a hot dirty chai latte, which is a chai latte with a shot of espresso. While I waited for my coffee to be made, I enjoyed a warm cinnamon bun and helped myself a glass of water from the very ornate self-service tap.

I also ended up ordering a veggie “sausage” roll for my lunch which was packed with delicious chickpeas in a tomatoey kind of sauce.

The atmosphere was great and the staff were particularly friendly and gave recommendations when I wasn’t quite sure what to order.
