What to expect at our on-campus Open Days

Open Days are back for 2023! RGU is very excited to welcome prospective students back to campus to enjoy the full RGU Open Day experience. Here’s what to expect from our on-campus Open Days…

When are our Open Days?

This autumn, we are running two on-campus undergraduate Open Days. Being on campus is the best way for you to explore your potential study environment, get a feel for the university and speak to course leaders, student support services and current students face-to-face! We can’t wait to welcome you to our beautiful riverside campus.

Below are the dates and times of our Open Days. To register, click whichever day you plan on attending and fill in the registration form:

Getting to Campus

There are ample car parking spaces available on campus and except for spaces outside of RGU SPORT, parking restrictions will not be enforced on Open Day.

Alternatively if you’re not going to be driving, First Bus Aberdeen services 1 & 2 operate between the City Centre and the Garthdee Campus on a regular basis and take you right into the heart of campus. Find out more information on how to get to the RGU Campus on the RGU website.

The Widening Access Team at RGU can provide financial support to eligible students from widening access backgrounds to help contribute towards the travel costs to attend university Open Days. Please refer to our webpage to find out if you are eligible for partial reimbursement of travel costs or you can email access@rgu.ac.uk.

When you arrive on campus, please make your way to the Sir Ian Wood Building to pick up your RGU Open Day Goody Bag outside on the plaza and to check in.

What to expect on the day

Our Open Days have a wide variety of timetabled activities taking place which showcase the diverse learning opportunities available at RGU. Activities will run across our Sir Ian Wood Building, Ishbel Gordon Building, Riverside Building and Gray’s School of Art and be repeated wherever possible, covering all the different Academic Schools and subject areas on offer. We always upload our event timetable online in advance and email you a copy beforehand so that you can plan your day.

The Sir Ian Wood Building

If you’re coming along to one of our Open Days for the first time, you might be wondering what your visit will look like. While there is no right or wrong way to plan your day, checking the frequency of subject based workshops, course specific talks, accommodation visits and campus tours is our suggested starting point.

Arriving with a list of what you want to do will help you to prioritise what matters most and maximise the number of activities you can experience, so you leave with as much information as possible. Here is a suggested schedule:

  • Arrival to the Sir Ian Wood Building Plaza to check in and collect your goody bag (9:45 – 10:00).
  • Help yourself to our complimentary refreshments in the Amphitheatre before taking a seat at our Vice Principal’s Welcome Talk (10:10 – 10:25).
  • Academic School Welcome and Course Talk / Course Facilities Tour (up to 1.5 hours).
  • Follow up with one to one questions at course specific stands or by visiting our Info Hub (eg. 30 – 45 minutes). These are available throughout the full duration of the event.
  • Campus tours are available throughout the event, departing from the Sir Ian Wood Building Concourse (45 minutes to 1 hour).
  • View Woolmanhill Halls of Residence and Crathie Student Village from 10:00 until 16:00. The final departure time of our free mini bus service from campus is 15:30.

You will find our Info Hub along the Sir Ian Wood Building concourse, which is your opportunity to gather all the information you need about life at RGU, including:

Campus Tours

The campus tours will be carried out by our very own students, and will give you the opportunity to see our stunning riverside campus in all its glory. The students will be able to provide the perfect insight into how to get around campus and where you can find everything you will need during your time as a student.

These tours are running throughout the day and depart at the amphitheatre in the Sir Ian Wood Building. They will take around 45 minutes to complete, so be sure to plan your day accordingly.
