For anyone that doesn’t know me that well, it soon becomes very apparent that I am not a sports or exercise minded individual. I’m someone that would much rather spend time chilling with friends, shopping or going to the cinema.
However, anyone with a TV this summer must be aware of the incredible sporting season taking place over these few months from Andy Murray winning Wimbledon, or Chris Froome breaking records with his Tour de France win to Portugal winning the Euro 2016 football and the massive build up to the long awaited 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Despite being reasonably unfit and not particularly hugely into sports, watching these amazing athletes on the TV always makes me wish I could go out and participate in all these activities.
So I decided to do some research and was amazed to find that RGU sports offers a huge variety of sports for students to get involved in. I mean look at this list!
Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Boxing, Cheerleading and Dance, Clay Pigeon, Cricket, Curling, Football, Gaelic Football, Golf, Handball, Hockey, Horse Riding, Karate, Kick Boxing, Lacrosse, Mountain Biking, Netball, Rifle, Rowing, Rugby, Shelterstone, Shinty, Hurling and Camogie, Snowsports, Squash, Swimming and Water Polo, Table Tennis, Tennis, Trampolining, Volleyball and Weightlifiting.
With such a large variety I can’t imagine anyone could find something that was right up there street. All these clubs provide students the opportunity to learn a new sport, while meeting new people and most of these clubs accept complete beginners…. So even people like me can get involved. Who knows you could be the next Andy Murray!!
As the summer holidays begin to draw to a close and the start of the new uni year draws closer, why not stop and have a think about joining a new sports club. Maybe it’s that activity you’ve been needing to give you a break from your studies during the week or maybe it’s just something you’ve been interested in for ages but just haven’t given it a shot yet.
New year new me…. Isn’t that the saying? Well who says it has to only apply to the 1st January, why not the first day back at uni?
Might even bump into you there!
Catch you later, Megan x
