Reaching the end of my RGU degree

Hey everyone, I know it’s been a little while but let me tell you a lot has happened in these last few weeks but more importantly the chaos is now over. I really can’t quite believe that I have finished my fourth and final year of RGU, as it only seems yesterday I had my first day of first year.

With assessment after assessment, I hadn’t really had any time to think about what is next for me. Now that I’ve had some time to reflect, I’m slowly starting to plan what is ahead. The job hunt has begun and let me tell you, it’s not easy! Not only have I been applying for ‘big girl’ jobs but also for part-time jobs whilst I am still in Aberdeen. The hardest part I have found in this whole process is getting past the application stage and being able to almost sell yourself as much as possible. ‘Why are you right for this job?’ ‘Essential: Experience in…’ ‘If this sounds like you, then apply now’ are a few of the questions that seem to always appear in job descriptions, and sometimes, they are easy to answer, other times, not so simple.

At this moment in time, I am working voluntarily in the university laboratories to gain some more experience on a range of instrumentation (very important for science jobs!) and am working towards getting my honours project paper published. Exciting times! I also have a conditional offer for a Masters at RGU which will begin in September, all depending on whether I have a job by that time or not.

I would say that I always welcome change and enjoy trying new things but when I don’t know what is ahead it scares me. In all honestly, that is kind of where I am right now. The suspense of waiting to hear back about applications is frustrating but worth it in the end once you get an answer.

So in summary, I honestly don’t have a plan right now but I do have a 5k ‘Pretty Muddy’ Race for Life (raising money for Cancer Research), my practical driving test, graduation itself and my graduation ball ahead of me so it’s going to be a busy summer no matter what and I’m sure there will be more to add to that list in the near future!

Until next time,

Lizzy x
