RGU have done it again! On Saturday 12th March, RGU held on to their champions title and won the Aberdeen Asset Management Universities’ Boat Race for the 5th time in a row AND in record time!
Held on the River Dee, Aberdeen’s two universities- Robert Gordon University and Aberdeen University- went head to head and battled it out over 3.5km stretch of water. It was the closest ever race and the RGU team won with a time of seven minutes and 38.6 seconds, beating rivals from the University of Aberdeen by just a quarter of a length. The rowers are part of RGU Boat Club who train on the River Dee and complete circuit training at RGU Sport on a weekly basis.
The annual Aberdeen Boat Race has been running for the last 21 years and is held in honour of a late rower for his dedication to the sport and commitment to the promotion of rowing amongst Universities students within Aberdeen. Now, the race has become a regular fixture in the British rowing calendar where family, friends and students all gather around River Dee to support and cheer on their team.
Another win in the bag, bring on next year!
